Edward "Ted" F. Hume

Edward (Ted) F. Hume died on September 10, 2026 at the Avalon at Lewis Center from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on November 30, 1943 to Edward P. Hume and Mary Kingsbury Hume in New York City. During his childhood he also lived in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and Burlington, Vermont, before moving to Toledo, Ohio, where he graduated from Whitmer High School. He attended the University of Cincinnati to earn a BS in Electrical Engineering, and later completed an MS in Electrical Engineering at the Midwest College of Engineering as well as an MBA at Southern Methodist University. Ted served in the US Army in Vietnam with the Army Security Agency attached to the 101st Airborne. After marrying Frances (Kay) Duckett in 1971 he worked at Motorola, Cincinnati Microwave, Ranco and finally as an independent consultant on quality control and Six Sigma principles. After retiring, he and his wife Kay were able to spend more time in his favorite place, Lake George in New York, where he spent summers since infancy. He enjoyed traveling the US and world with his wife, getting his pilot’s license, woodworking, and attempting to grow roses and eliminate crabgrass. Even as Alzheimer’s disease took his memories, his kindness, patience, laid-back attitude, and sense of humor persisted. He is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Janet, son Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Julie; and granddaughters Hailey and Kylie. He is also survived by his brothers David and Stephen Hume. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Hume. There will be a celebration of life on October 18, 2026 at Schoedinger Funeral and Cremation Service, 6699 North High Street, from 3:00 – 5:00pm. There will be a private interment later at Valley View Cemetery in Ticonderoga, New York. Ted’s family extend their profound gratitude and thanks to the staff of the Avalon at Lewis Center and Mount Carmel Hospice who cared for him so well.
