

Edward passed away suddenly, Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born in Chico, CA, he was the second of seven children of Richard Waldo Martin, originally of Wyoming and Muriel Elizabeth (Zurcher) Martin, originally of Nebraska. He is preceded in death by his sister Betty (Martin) Crist, her husband Bob Crist and his brother, Everett Martin. He is survived by his brothers Jerry Martin, Larry Martin and Robert Martin, (Clarice) and his sister Dixie (Martin) Wademan (Bob), all of California.
He is also survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Martin, his three children, Linda Martin (Steve Noland), Karen (Martin) Neely (David) and James Martin (Meg Ashworth); his four grandsons Ross Martin (Andrea), Neil Martin (Becca), Kurt Martin and Luke Martin and his four great grandchildren (James, Lily, Wesley and Jack) along with many nieces and nephews.
Edward graduated from Woodland High School in Woodland, CA and was soon drafted into the army receiving his basic training at Fort Ord, CA. This location became a home base to which he would return several times. He made the Army a 21+ years career serving in Korea, Germany, two tours in Viet Nam, teaching at West Point, along with serving in several locations throughout the states. Edward distinguished himself during his service, receiving several medals and commendations, ultimately being promoted to and retiring as an E-8, First Sergeant.
Edward went back to school and received an Associate Degree in Arts in 1973 from Monterey Peninsula College, Monterey, CA and then decided to move to Ohio, married Barbara and pursued a second career of 17 years at the Ohio State Bar Association as a bookkeeper in the Finance Department retiring in 2004.
With his wife, Barbara, Edward bred and showed English Cocker Spaniels. They traveled together throughout the states competing in dog shows. He was a member of the English Cocker Spaniel Club of America and a founding member and president for many terms of the Northeast Ohio English Cocker Spaniel Fanciers.
Edward loved to work in his yard; planting flowers, gardening; was a voracious reader and loved to cook, always trying new recipes. He especially enjoyed his monthly game days spent with his son and grandsons. Most of all Edward, Papa, as he was known by his grandkids loved being with and enjoying his large and growing family.
There will be a visitation and funeral service celebrating Edward on Tuesday May 19, 2025 at Schoedinger Worthington, located at 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH with the visiting time from 10am - 12pm and the funeral service beginning at 12pm.
There will also be visitation hours scheduled at a later date and time at McCune Garden Chapel, located at 212 Main St., Vacaville, CA followed by an inurnment service at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
