

Gene joined the Army in the fall of 1946 and served in Japan after WWII. In 1948, he returned home, and later graduated from Doane College in Crete, NE, where he met the love of his life, Gladyce. They were married for over 70 years.
In 1952, Gene started working for the Equitable Life Assurance Society in Denver, CO. He returned to Nebraska to marry Gladyce in 1954, and they moved all over the country -- to Dallas, TX to Chicago, IL to Cedar Rapids, IA to Los Angeles, CA to Harrisburg, PA before they settled in Worthington, OH in 1978. He worked for the Equitable for 34 years.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Gladyce, and their three children -- Jeffrey David Kuhn, Janet George (Terry), and Laura Bolain (Curt) who all live in the Columbus area and loved him dearly. Gene adored his grandchildren, Jenny Popesco (Alex), Liz Finke (Ryan), Zach and Grace Bolain with whom he spent many enjoyable hours and vacations. His great grandchildren, Millie, Andrei, Jay Popesco, and Ronan, Eli, Nalia, Layla Finke were a joy to his heart. Two brothers-in-law, Kenney (Lois) Miller and Ron (Marlene) Damkroger, who live in Hemet, CA and Lincoln, NE and many nieces and nephews survive him.
He loved the outdoors – animals, birds, insects -- you name it, he enjoyed them. He would sit outside for hours soaking up the sun. After he retired in 1986, he volunteered for many years at Habitat for Humanity, a Lutheran Social Services Food Pantry, and his church -- All Saints Lutheran Church.
Gene had many wonderful friends, and he golfed with some of them until he was almost 95. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
A private graveside service was held August 22, 2025.
