

Floyd was born in LaGrange, Georgia. His parents were Willie and Sarah Shepherd. Within his family were sister Thelma Simpson, his identical twin Lloyd (Evelyn) of New Jersey and Wilma Gloria Fenner (Robert) of Akron, Ohio. Floyd was predeceased by siblings Louise, Ocie, Clarence, Ethel, Willie Henry, Robert Moore, Nathaniel Moore and Leon Rush.
Floyd was a scholar and earned an MBA from The Ohio State University and a PhD in Polymers Chemistry from The University of Akron. Upon graduation he worked for Goodyear. Floyd’s career spanned work for Union Carbide and he directed a laboratory of Exploratory Chemicals for Owens Corning Fiberglass prior to his retirement.
He married his beloved wife Arlene in 1981 and settled in Ohio. After retirement he was the proprietor of a Strategic planning business in Central Ohio. Floyd was an avid reader and Master Gardener. His hobbies included work at the Franklin Park Conservatory where he conducted classes in gardening and plant propagation. Floyd was also active in National Technical Association (NTA), an organization that supports middle school students pursuing careers in science, SAT tutoring and fundraising for college scholarships.
In addition to his loving wife, sisters and brother, he leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. He also leaves behind his best friend of over 25 years Bennie Cohran.
Floyd’s work was done, he helped, advised and taught all those he could and he passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022.
A celebration of life and reception for Floyd will be held on April 1, 2023
