

Frank E. Murphy, age 85 passed away on Monday January 31, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 17, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Patrick E. Murphy and Marie (Hartman) Murphy. He was preceded in death by his wife Paula Murphy, brother Patrick E. Murphy Jr. and his sister Marilyn M. Eichenlaub. He is survived by his children Mitchell (Amy) Murphy and Mikel (Doug) Wollenburg, his stepson Brian (Stephanie) Weddle, his grandchildren Ryne, Elizabeth, Rachel and Anna Wollenburg, Maple and Carver Murphy.
Frank graduated from St. Charles Preparatory School in 1954. He was a remarkable athlete and excelled in basketball and tennis. He attended The Ohio State University, graduating in 1963 from Otterbein with a degree in Spanish Education. He went on to earn a master's degree in Education from Wittenberg University in 1965. His early career began as a Spanish teacher at Gahanna Lincoln High School. He later accepted a position with Austin E. Knowlton Company as a project coordinator for the design, construction, and finance of major capital improvements.
Frank's career as a developer and entrepreneur spanned over 40 years. He was always a leader in the field. His building projects included group homes, retirement communities and college dormitories across Ohio and surrounding states. In 2007, Frank founded University Housing Solutions. UHS has earned a reputation for developing exceptional student housing for colleges and universities nationwide.
Frank had a generous spirit. Throughout his journey, he felt a strong calling to give back to the community. His generosity was recently celebrated at St. Charles Preparatory School with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Frank E. Murphy Convocation Center. His legacy will continue with the Frank E. Murphy Foundation with an emphasis on student success and education.
Frank was known for his style and impeccable taste. He would enter a room and catch every eye. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel like they were special. Frank was an exceptional host. He entertained at his homes in Naples, Florida and Catawba, Ohio. They were often filled with family, friends, and many laughs. He touched many lives in his journey and changed them for the better. He lived his life to the fullest and he will be deeply missed.
