George was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers and their wives: William (Margaret), John V. (Donna), and Hobart Jr. (Beverly); as well as nephews Jack and Steven Wilson.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Corinne (Cory); son David and his wife Kelly Wilson; niece Brenda Wilson; and nephews Keith (Katrina) Wilson of Gallipolis, OH, and Rodger (Cheryl) Wilson of Centennial, CO. George is also survived by dear friends Judy Henry of Columbus, OH and Dale Stokes of Wilmington, OH.
George's commitment to service began early when he served two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he returned to civilian life to pursue his passion for music and education, earning both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University.
For many years, George dedicated himself to teaching choral music and inspiring young musicians at high schools in Grandview Heights, Wilmington, and Grove City, OH. His influence extended far beyond the classroom as he became deeply involved in music education at the state and national levels. A lifelong member of the Music Educators National Conference, George served the Ohio Music Education Association with distinction as a choral judge throughout the state, chaired various committees, and became an editor of the Triad, the association's official magazine.
George's leadership in choral music was further recognized when he became a founding member and the first state president of the Ohio Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. For several years, George was also a director of the Ohio Honors Chorale, a prestigious ensemble of high school students selected through rigorous auditions. The group toured Europe for several years, providing enriching musical experiences for many young singers.
Even in retirement, George's love of music continued. He spent ten happy years working at Stanton's Sheet Music store in downtown Columbus, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with musicians of many ages.
George was a devoted member of First Community Church for 50 years, where his faith and love of music came together in meaningful service. He sang in the chamber choir, served on the Service Board, volunteered faithfully as an usher, and gave his time to the Heart-to-Heart mission’s group.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the medical staff of Riverside Hospital and Kobacker House.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either First Community Church's "Friends of Music" or to the Mission Council at 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus, OH 43212.
