James was born on March 15, 1937, in Clintonville, Ohio, to Bernadine Schott and James Walter Daily. He is survived by his children, Chris Daily, Laura Daily, and Michelle Burkey; his sister, Barbara Evangelista; and his brother, Gerald Daily. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
During his years at New Albany High School, James distinguished himself both athletically and musically. He earned All-County honors in football during his senior year, sang in Glee Club and County Chorus, and was selected to attend Buckeye Boys’ State. After graduating in 1954, he joined the Air National Guard and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 1961.
James began his professional career with North American Aviation in 1961 and later worked for Applied Electronics. In 1984, he and Dale Acree founded their own company, where he continued to apply his knowledge, dedication, and strong work ethic until his retirement in 1996.
In retirement, James remained active in his church and community and was a devoted volunteer in Kairos prison ministry. He found great joy in skiing, golfing, boating, traveling, camping, telling stories, and making friends wherever he went. A dedicated fan of Ohio State athletics—especially football—he attended countless games and cheered faithfully for the Buckeyes.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, Mill Run Campus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Kairos of Ohio, P.O. Box 14490, Columbus, Ohio 43214, or online at kairosohio.org/donate.
James will be remembered for his kindness, faith, warmth, and the genuine friendships he formed throughout his life. His legacy of love and service will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
