James Franklin Metzger

April 1, 1927 – July 13, 2026

James F. Metzger, age 99, passed away on July 13, 2026, at the Bristol Senior Center following a short illness. A man of remarkable vitality, James was living life to the fullest until his final weeks, riding around on his prized bright red, four-wheel scooter.

Born in Bucyrus, Ohio, on April 1, 1927, James was the son of the late Raymond and Mary Metzger. He was the devoted husband of the late Ruth Metzger, with whom he shared a life centered on family, friends, and faith. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and David Metzger. He is survived by son Rick Metzger, wife Christa, of Westerville, Ohio and two sisters, Frances and Bonnie.

James was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who took immense joy in his family. His legacy and profound pride live on through his four grandsons, their spouses/partners, and his five great-granddaughters: Jason and Tawnya Metzger, and their daughter, Josie, of Circleville, Ohio; Christopher and Josefa and their daughter, Cyenna, of Milford, Michigan; Nicholas and Amanda Metzger, and their daughters, Amelia and Alyson, of Galena, Ohio; and Robert and Jessica Metzger, and their daughter, Natalya, of Ashland, Ohio.

James will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him, but his adventurous spirit will ride on forever.
