

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Jim died peacefully on January 7, 2026, at his home in Westerville after a lengthy illness. He was born in Shawnee, Ohio, the son of James B. and Isabel (McLean) Montell, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Jim served in the Armed Forces as staff sergeant in the Army Signal Corp during the Korean War. He worked for the Citizen Journal newspaper in circulation as district manager. Later he worked at ServPro as a part-time office manager.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Barbara (Franz); sons Stephen (Sally) and Daniel Montell; daughters Patrice, aka Patty (Kevin) Simpson, Sharon (Terry) George, Martha Montell; grandchildren Jessica, Christine, Lindsay, Paul, Sarah, Andrew, Benjamin, Eric and Kyle; and great grandchildren Carter and Tyler. Jim was a very loving husband, a quiet and easy-going man and being an only child himself, he truly adored and loved his five children and all the grandchildren and greats. He enjoyed gardening, camping trips with the family, trips to the beach, and boating on Lake Erie.
Service to be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N. State St., Westerville, Ohio 43082 with a visitation starting at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at10:30 a.m. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
