

Joanne Marie (Pietila) Gilbert, 87 of Hilliard, OH, formerly of Mentor, OH passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023. A Celebration of Life service for Joanne will be held at 12pm Saturday March 4, 2023, at All Saints Lutheran Church in Worthington, OH. Friends and family may visit at the church beginning at 11am.
Joanne was the youngest of two children, born to John William and Lillian Marie (Kulma) Pietila. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Tom Pietila and sister-in-law Mary Jane Pietila; and former husband, Doug Gilbert.
She is survived by her two daughters Linda Gilbert Pausch and Laura Marie Gilbert (Laura Bolster); granddaughter Lilja Marie Reynolds, nephews Rev. Tom Pietila (Lindy), Michael Pietila (Kathy), Randy Pietila, Jeff Pietila; great nieces Rebecca Taylor (Chris), Caroline Marie Pietila; three great-great nephews Christopher and Caden Taylor and Thomas Pietila; and many cousins.
Joanne was a 1953 graduate of Harvey High School, Painesville, OH and received an associates degree in secretarial sciences from Ohio University. She was an executive secretary for the Ohio Rubber Company for many years and retired from Picker International.
Joanne had been a life-long resident of Lake County, Ohio residing in Mentor and Willoughby. She was a founding member of Advent Lutheran Church in Mentor, OH where she had many dear friends. While a member of Advent she sang in the Chancel Choir, active the women’s circles and volunteered in the church office. The gift of music brought her much joy over the years, sharing her love of singing with many choirs including the Painesville Women’s Chorus.
In 2005, she moved to Columbus, OH to be closer to her daughters and granddaughter. Upon her arrival to Columbus, All Saints Lutheran Church became her church home in which she was active in the “young retireds” group, home care ministry, and the Jubilate Choir. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her granddaughter and family in South Carolina, attending school concerts, plays and sporting events.
The family will be forever grateful for all of those who added peace and goodness to Joanne’s life, especially her friends and family, fellow church members, care providers at The Ashford, and the Capital City Hospice team.
