John Robert Powers

He attended Munster High School and Indiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity and received a BA Degree in Marketing and Advertising. He moved to Ohio and worked at F&R Lazarus, Roxanne Laboratories, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and Cardinal Health. He retired in 2008.

John married the love of his life, Marilyn Ruth Young, on June 13,1998. John and Marilyn loved taking road trips to Gatlinburg, the Smoky Mountains and to Amish Country. His favorite trips were to Florida, Maine, Ohio and Michigan lakeshores to visit lighthouses. Lighthouses and reading about the Titanic were two of his passions. His other passions included attending car shows, especially those from the 1950’s and 1960’s, reading and listening to music. He loved the Chicago Cubs and IU football. They spent holidays with their close friends, Gary and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Powers. He is survived by his brother, Tim (Marcia) Powers and sister Cynthia Colgrove; nephew Jim (Pam) Young, nieces Karen (Keith) Hopeck, Linda (Ed) Beck, Lisa Koterba, Chrissy (Micheal) Bruns and Allison Colgrove.

Services will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio on Sept. 3rd, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 North High Street, Lewis Center, Ohio immediately following.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Columbus Humane Foundation in Hilliard, Ohio.
