John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a man who found joy in the simple things in life—time spent with family, working with his hands, and keeping busy with whatever project happened to catch his interest.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring after 21 years of dedicated service. He later continued his career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 18 years before retiring.
When John wasn't working, you could often find him doing what he loved most: hunting, fishing, gardening, building and fixing things, tinkering in his garage, and working on cars. He was happiest when he had a project in front of him and a reason to put his hands to work.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna; his parents, John and Emma Walschott; his daughter-in-law, Susan; his brother, Robert; and his sister, Shirley.
He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory in their hearts: his children, John R. Walschott and Karen L. Walschott; his grandchildren, Ginger Stuart, Michelle (Adam) Kapusin, Megan (Joe) Flynn, Amber (Brian) Hite, John (Whitney) Jenkins, and Victoria (Tyson) Chiriac; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Though he will be deeply missed, John's memory will live on in the generations he leaves behind—in every story told, every lesson remembered, every project that gets tinkered with, and every family gathering where his presence will be felt.
A service with military honors celebrating John’s life will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 4:30pm at Schoedinger Worthington. His family will receive friends following the service until 7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Ohio Veterans Home, Attn: Treasury, 3416 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Checks may be made payable to OVH-RBF.
