Joo Hyun was born on March 1, 1942 in Seoul South Korea to Bongchae (Peter) Choand In Soon (Maria) Cho. Joo Hyun graduated from the College of Education at the EWHA Womans University in 1963, and completed her master’s degree in 1965.Upon graduating, Joo Hyun worked at the National Library in Seoul Korea.
Joo Hyun immigrated to the U.S in 1968, and was married that same year to her husband Bong Mo (Paul) Lee. She raised four children, Tony, Tracy, Michael and Steven in Worthington, Ohio. As a housewife, she was a caring and loving mother that devoted her life to raising her boys and being an adoring wife to her husband for 40 years. She was a devoted catholic and was a part of the Korean Catholic Community in Columbus, Ohio.
As her children became adults, she had more time to do what she loved, writing poems. Joo Hyun has been recognized for her poems in various publications in Korea and the U.S., and has received the Editor’s Choice Award multiple times by The International Library of Poetry for her work.
Joo Hyun also enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading, spending time with friends, praying and attending church.
The Catholic Diocese of Columbus has recognized Joo Hyun for her long service in the Korean Catholic Community that expanded four decades.
Joo Hyun was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bong Mo, son Tony, brother Kyung Hoon Cho, and brother Alexander Dong Hoon Cho.
Joo Hyun is survived by sons Tracy (Kristin), Michael, and Steven (Jenn). Also survived by brother Won Hoon Cho and his wife Young Mi Cho. Sisters-in-law Jane Boo Ja Cho and Yeun Sook Cho. Nieces and nephews that survived Joo Hyun are Paul, Frances Sun Ah, Elizabeth, James, Edward, Judy, Gerrie and Nellie.
Her family, friends, and Korean Catholic Community will miss her loving presence.
Our mother had a deep faith in the Lord and prayed daily for the health and well-being of her family. May our dear beloved mother rejoice in heaven.
Prayer services will begin 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25th at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 720 Hamlet Street, Columbus, Oh 43215. Burial will take place immediately afterwards at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 High Street, Lewis Center, Oh 43035
