

Kathy was born on July 25, 1942, in El Paso Texas to Alfred and Frances (Cloud) DeBruhl. She grew up in El Paso, graduating from Burgess High School in 1960. She went on to attend Texas Western University (now University of Texas at El Paso – GO MINERS!) and in 1964 received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. On October 9, 1964, she was married in El Paso to Specialist 4th Class Alvin Bame of Dayton Ohio. In early 1965, they would move to Dayton Ohio to begin their life together. Their first son Edward was born in June of that year. In the late 1960s she would begin her teaching career at Grafton Kennedy Elementary School. In October of 1969, the young family would move to New Carlisle Ohio and were soon joined by their second son Michael. Kathy would end up being a 50-year resident of New Carlisle. She was very involved in the community, spending many volunteer hours with the New Carlisle Baseball Association, New Carlisle Cubs pee wee football, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tecumseh High School Athletic Boosters, to name a few. In the early 1970’s, she began a 30-year career with Mad River School District near Dayton Ohio as a middle school math teacher. She would eventually earn a Master’s degree of Education from Wright State University. She was an active member of the Mad River Education Association serving in many roles. She would eventually branch out into coaching, first volleyball then softball. She would coach both at the middle school level and eventually at Stebbins HS. She enjoyed many lifelong friendships made at Mad River, Sheila Campbell, Sharon (Berry) Liddy, Pat (Brown) Hubby and many more. She retired from teaching in 2002. She enjoyed many hobbies including reading, quilting, crocheting, attending Dayton Dragons baseball games, collecting Christmas music boxes, and traveling to find light houses with Al and their Basset Hounds (Humphrey, Cleopatra, and Ripley). Her favorite hobby would soon become spoiling her grandkids. She and Al spent many hours at many fields/gyms being their biggest fans. After Al’s death in 2019, she would move to Westerville OH to be closer to Mike and Ed and the family she loved so much.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years Alvin, son Henry Bame, and parents Alfred and Frances Debruhl. She is survived by her sons Edward (Michelle) and Michael (Leia). Her six grandchildren, Meghan, Matthew, Payton, Katie, Kristen, and David. All of Westerville Ohio. Sister Linda Stewart of Robinson Illinois. Brother Edward DeBruhl of El Paso Texas. Sister Marie Quiroz of El Paso Texas. Sister Patsy Ortiz of Temple Texas. Brother Michael DeBruhl of El Paso Texas. Sister Debbie Marquez of El Paso Texas. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday Jan 30 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel 6699 N High Street Worthington OH. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church Friday Jan 31 at 11:00am (a live stream will be provided for those unable to attend at https://cotrna.org/). A celebration of life luncheon will take place directly after Mass at the Church Ministry Center adjacent to the Church. In lieu of flowers please donate to St Vincent DePaul or your favorite high school’s athletic department.
