With profound sorrow and unwavering faith in God’s promise of eternal life, we announce that our beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, Kimberly Anne Hoffman, gently returned her spirit to the Lord on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, at 8:20 am after a courageous battle with ALS. Kimberly was born on August 17th, 1961, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1979. She continued her education at The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1984. Throughout her life, she was spiritually nurtured at Faith Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon. Her final place of employment was the Westerville Area Resource Ministry (W.A.R.M.), where she dedicated herself to serving others. Kimberly was an avid reader throughout her life and had a great passion for music, especially rock, new wave and punk. She was a percussionist in the Fredericktown marching band and a DJ for WOSR Radio while attending Ohio State. Kimberly and her husband Randy would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 15th of this year. Their love story began in the fall of 1982 at the Varsity Club. Randy remembers asking Kimberly to walk her home that night, but she refused to let him. That could have been the end of the story, but a few days later Randy asked her to go on a date, and this time Kimberly said yes. From there, they were rarely ever apart. They were married on August 15th, 1986 in Faith Lutheran Church. Along with the births of their daughters Natalia and Allie, those were the greatest moments of their lives. Kimberly’s kindness and friendly spirit touched countless lives. She fought ALS as hard as she could, but in the final days of her life, she longed for freedom from suffering, and in her final hours, Kimberly lost the use of her right hand. She no longer had a way to communicate with family or friends and then her breathing became labored. With Randy and Natalia by her bedside, Kimberly’s beautiful soul was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, where she is now free from pain and suffering. Kimberly is survived by her husband Randy Shaw; her daughters Natalia Hoffman-Shaw and Allie Hoffman-Shaw; her father, Robert John Hoffman; her sisters: Kelly Hoffman, Laura Hoffman-Weber and her husband Bob Weber, Nancy Hoffman, and Christine Hoffman-Ulmer & her husband Bryan Ulmer; along with nephew Ethan Weber and nieces Rebecca Weber, Marrisa Hoffman-Ulmer and Teah Hoffman-Ulmer. Kimberly was preceded in death by her mother Sally Carole Hoffman. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Kimberly’s friends, classmates, and coworkers for their help and support through this challenging journey. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Michelle Morris, who went above and beyond to help take care of Kimberly. Also, a special thanks to their in-home nurse Margie from Ohio Health at Home.
In lieu of flowers, Kimberly requested that donations be made to her GoFundMe to assist with remaining medical bills and funeral expenses by going to https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-call-for-compassion-for-kimberly-hoffman Donations can also be made at her celebration of life service.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kimberly on Saturday, January 31st at 2:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave, Mt Vernon, OH 43050. Following the Celebration of Life there will be a lunch reception at the same location, in the church basement.
