Kristin Schneider, 47, passed away on Monday, February 17th ending her 5 year battle with breast cancer. Kristin is survived by her husband Ryan; sons Grant (20) and Reed (13); mother, Deborah Kelly; father and stepmother, Larry and Deb Kelly; brothers Heath (Maureen) and Colin Kelly; father-in-law, Roger Schneider; sister-in-law Raegan Schneider; 4 stepsisters; and 9 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by mother-in-law Sandy Schneider; brother-in-law Eric Schneider; and stepmother-in-law, Lynn Schneider.
Kristin grew up in Perrysburg, OH and discovered a passion for swimming at the youngest of ages. Swimming became a central part of her life all the way through college as she was a part of both the city and high school swim teams, a lifeguard, and a swim team coach. She was even kind enough to encourage her to-be husband to lifeguard and coach with her, which they did for several years. It is no surprise that she would always say “the beach fixes everything.”
Kristin would go on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Bowling Green, later earning her Master’s in the same field. Her dedication to teaching showed her love of the profession. She taught elementary and special education for 24 years with over 20 of those years occurring in the Newark City School District, where she made lifelong connections with so many of her colleagues.
Kristin and her husband were high school sweethearts. They had a marriage that was filled with as much love and respect as one could find. They were gifted two wonderful children who she loved to play games and watch movies with. She especially loved building the best holiday and birthday celebrations for them as she could. Pinterest and Kristin were like peanut butter and jelly. She loved looking for ideas so she could surprise the boys with something she had created. You could not ask for a more caring or devoted mother and wife.
Kristin was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2019. She would then be diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer two years later. These diagnoses never slowed her down. She and her family made it their mission to create as many memories as they could along the way. She and her husband took trips to the Maldives, where she was able to fulfill her dream of staying in an over-the-water bungalow. They traveled to Iceland to see the Northern Lights, hike cliffs, and explore ice caves. The entire family took trips to places such as Myrtle Beach, Universal Florida, and the Dominican Republic, making wonderful memories along the way. She never let her diagnosis slow her down.
Kristin always carried herself with positivity and determination. Her hair was the only way you might recognize the battle she was taking on, because her disposition and work ethic would never tell you otherwise. She and her husband will be forever grateful to her team of doctors and nurses at the Spielman Center, as they became family throughout this journey. We would also like to thank the Palliative Care team at St. Ann’s, as they did a wonderful job keeping her comfortable throughout her final days.
Kristin was known for her infectious laugh that could be heard and identified from a distance. Her laugh, love, kindness, compassion, and devotion will be incredibly missed. A date and location for a memorial service to celebrate Kristin’s life will be determined in the coming days. It is intended to be an informal gathering, filled with more laughter than sadness, as that is how Kristin would want it to be.
Visitation will be at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington OH, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM. A Celebration of Life will be held at the end of the visitation, from 3:00 to 3:30 PM.
