Born on December 10, 1923, to George and Stella Lunter, Leona grew up with her two brothers, Pete and George, and her sister, Anne. She lived a long and productive life, sharing over thirty joyful years with her beloved husband, Michael Smith.
Together, Leona and Michael owned and operated Smitty’s Tavern in Hopedale, Ohio. More than just a business, the restaurant bar was the warm heart of the community, known for their exceptional hospitality and for bringing residents together.
A devoted Catholic, Leona was also known for her quiet passions, including her love for flower gardens and crossword puzzles.
Leona had three daughters, Delores, Patti, and Marcia. She also had five grandchildren.
Services: A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 13th at the Schoedinger Funeral Home in Worthington, 6699 N High St., Worthington, Ohio, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The burial will take place Tuesday, October 14th at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, 801 Canton Rd., in Wintersville, Ohio, at 12pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joan of Arc Church in Powell, Ohio.
