Margaret Barstow Weait, known to everyone as "Padge," died on Wednesday February 18, 2026 in the loving presence of her immediate family. The only child of Henry Loren Barstow and Margaret Pitt Barstow, she was raised among many adored aunts, uncles and cousins. Padge met Christopher Weait in a highschool music ensemble and the couple made beautiful music together, both literally and figuratively through their 65 year marriage.
A treasured spouse to the love of her-life, Christopher, cherished Mom to Richard (Megan) of Denmark, and Elizabeth (Bruce) of Canada, and special Grammie to Jocelyn and Cameron, she was CEO of a tight-knit, loving family, despite separation by geography. Her generosity and hospitality was remembered fondly by students, relatives and friends who were welcomed into the Weait household for a home-cooked meal or a place to stay. She maintained enduring friendships though her 85 years, and will be greatly missed by neighbors and colleagues.
Padge was well-known for her creative work among family, friends, students, clients and musical audiences. An accomplished cellist, she was a freelance musician, a teacher, and a member of orchestras in Columbus, Ohio (Pro Musica), and Toronto, Ontario (founding cellist in Tafelmusik). She also turned her skilled hands to making pottery, quilting, sewing, jewelry making, woodworking (which she took up in her 70's) and inventing innovative items for "Padge's Products."
She demonstrated strength and determination through a long illness, never giving up her desire to do what's best for those she loved -- who always came first.
The funeral arrangements are by Schoedinger in Worthington, Ohio. Burial of the cremains will be on a later date in the family plot in Norfolk, Connecticut, and a gathering in celebration of Padge's life is to be arranged later this year in Dublin, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, please consider remembering Padge with a donation to your local Cancer centre or favourite Arts organization.
