Michelle Elaine Barden

Michelle (Shelley) Barden (née Uncapher), age 64, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, following a brief illness. Born on June 18, 1960, in Dayton, Ohio, she lived a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure.

Shelley was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cherie Uncapher. She is survived by her children, Eliott and Kelsey Barden; her siblings, Julie Uncapher (Carla) and their children, Joshua Hale and Courtney (Jordan and Quinn) Sowers, and John A. Uncapher; her fiancé, Allen Ludington; as well as cousins, lifelong family friends, and many friends who are like family.

A proud graduate of The Ohio State University, Shelley formed strong, lasting friendships during her college years that stayed close to her throughout her life. She dedicated more than 30 years of her career to the OSU Medical Center and was a passionate supporter of the Buckeyes—a bond she shared deeply with her father.

Shelley’s zest for life was truly reflected in her love for the outdoors, where she found both peace and excitement in activities like hiking, rock climbing, motorcycle racing and skydiving. She also had a passion for live music and rarely missed an opportunity to attend a concert with her favorite people.

Above all, Shelley was a deeply devoted mother to her children, and her unwavering guidance and support formed the foundation of their lives. Her love for Eliott and Kelsey was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent watching them grow.

Shelley’s selflessness, kindness, and adventurous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A Celebration of Life is tentatively scheduled for May 24, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Shelley’s memory.
