Michelle Crooks

Mary “Michelle” Crooks, age 81, of Columbus, passed away on September 12, 2024. She was born on May 6, 1943, to the late Owen and Mary Lester in Hopewell, Virginia. In addition to her parents, Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Ken Crooks, as well as her siblings, Barbara, Pam, and Owen.

Michelle had a deep love for her family and her two children, a fitting reflection of her lifelong commitment to childhood education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from William and Mary College and went on to have a fulfilling career teaching elementary students in the Columbus school system. Michelle's years in the classroom left an indelible mark on countless children, who will always remember her as a caring, and passionate teacher.

Outside of her career, Michelle cherished her time with family and friends. She loved reading and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, which brought her great joy throughout her life.

Michelle is survived by her children, Brian (Kristy) Crooks and Leslie (Matt) Schalk; her grandchildren, Hailey, Blake, and Jaze Schalk, Kiran, and Kallie Crooks, and many dear friends.

A visitation for Michelle will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N High Street, Worthington, OH 43085. Burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N High St, Lewis Center, OH 43035.
