Muriel Joy Brandkamp Martin, born on April 17, 1941, entered her eternal home with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on May 11th, 2023. Raised by two loving parents who adopted her at 3 weeks, Muriel joined their family alongside older brother, Willard Brandkamp. She trusted Jesus as a little girl and asked her daddy, “can I take my Ritz crackers with me to heaven?” Her love for Jesus followed her through life and led to her meeting husband of 63 years, George F. Martin, right before stepping on campus at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. Although they had never met previously, George lived in Hackensack NJ, only a few miles from her hometown of Westwood. After two years of dating and engagement, they married on August 13th, 1960 and moved to Birmingham, Alabama where she lived her dream of becoming the mother of two children; Frank Martin 1961 and Laurie Lee 1963. They later moved to Columbus, Ohio. Through George’s work, Muriel had the opportunity to travel with her husband to Canada, Italy, France, Switzerland, England, Scotland, and Rio de Janeiro as well as many places within the USA. Her travels included a surprise trip to Hawaii for their 25th anniversary. Muriel had a love for children and taught Sunday School to first graders as well as leading the high school youth group at Calvary Bible Church with her husband. The children she taught became like family, as many remained in contact with her throughout the rest of her life. She touched lives through service wherever she had the opportunity, including at her home church, Grace Polaris, where she attended prayer meeting and cancer support group as well as providing meals for funerals. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, J. Stanton Brandkamp and Dorthy Brandkamp; her mother and father-in-law, Nellie A. Martin and George (Frank) Martin, and her granddaughter Cassady Martin. She is survived by husband, Dr. George Martin; brother, Willard Brandkamp; son, Frank Martin; daughter-in-law, Deana Martin; daughter, Laurie Malony; and granddaughters Sarah and Jessica Malony.
