

Richard John Daugherty, 75, passed peacefully in his sleep to be with Our Lord and his wife, Chong, on January 22, 2025. Richard passed away after battling dementia for years prior to other health issues which ultimately brought him home to the Lord. Richard was a 29 year resident of Galena, Ohio where he and his wife Chong built their forever home. Richard was a member of St. John Neumann’s parish where he taught CCD following in the footsteps of his mother, Dorothy Daugherty. Richard was known for his love of his family, friends, military history, telling army stories and animals. Richard spent over twenty years in the United States Army while travelling the world where he met his wife, Chong, in South Korea. They spent years travelling while on active duty prior to adopting Misa and settling in the United States where Richard was honorably discharged and retired from the army. Richard was known to be friendly and knew no stranger. He was the first to help whether it was with family or others. Richard and Chong gave back to their community and donated to families in need. He was known around the community at the local libraries due his avid reading and donut shop with his weekly standing order. He enjoyed walking at the local mall where he made friends along the way. After retirement, Richard enjoyed staying busy and always had a project at home under way.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife Chong, parents Donald and Dorothy Daugherty and his sister, Donna Jean Wolcoski. Richard is survived by his daughter, Misa; brother Daniel (JoAnn) Daugherty; brother Donald Jr (Virginia) Daugherty; nieces and nephews: Bryan, Theresa (Brandon) Bell, Shannon Cervantes, Marie (Josh) Cramer and Adam. In addition, Richard is survived by other relatives in the Daugherty, Heck, Goodrich, Wolcoski and Bell families.
Services for Richard will be held at Schoedinger Funeral home in Worthington on February 7, 2025 with calling hours from 10 to 12 with service and direct procession to Kingwood Cemetery to be placed to rest. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s association or your local animal shelter.
