Rick was born on January 16th, 1953 and grew up in Utah and California. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed overseas, where he developed a deep appreciation for German food, beer, and culture – a love that stayed with him throughout his life. After returning home from the Army, Rick took a job with Amfac Drug Supply in Southern California. That company was purchased by Whitmire Drug Distribution, which was then purchased by Cardinal Health. Rick was transferred to Cardinal Health headquarters in 1995 and continued his career in Dublin, Ohio and retired with 39 years of service in the Drug Distribution industry.
Rick was known for his quick wit, distinctive sense of humor, and his deep love of bonsai, music, movies, and motorcycles. He also loved keeping fish and having dogs. He was truly a hobbyist and loved to keep his hands and mind busy. A creative spirit, Rick especially found joy in cultivating his bonsai collection and eagerly shared his knowledge with others. He was always ready to lend a hand, particularly with yard work or plant care, and his passion for gardening became an integral part of his identity.
Rick’s sharp humor was unforgettable, but beneath it was a generous heart and a spirit that touched everyone who knew him. He spoke his mind honestly, yet he had a way of making people feel cared for at the same time. Wherever he went, his presence was unmistakable — full of fire, laughter, and warmth — leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever by all who loved him.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Beverlee Wilson; his mother, Wanda Wilson; his children, Austin (Kara) Wilson and Sara Wilson; his stepchildren, Sahm VanVoorhis, Barbara (Brad) Klinock, Phillip VanVoorhis, and Heather (Justin) Noel; and his beloved grandchildren, Brenna (Rodney) Spillman, Aarron (Kylie) VanVoorhis, Alexandra (Sean) Rilley, Andrew Yakacki, Kira VanVoorhis, Makala Wilson, Sophia VanVoorhis, Alex Wilson, Jason Wilson, and Matthew Noel. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren and extended family in California.
A private cremation will take place. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Dawes Arboretum in Rick’s honor.
Rick will be remembered for his love of bonsai, his sarcasm, and his generous spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
