Robert E. Tuttle

Bob was born on May 1, 1928 to the late Christopher C. and Gladys Mae (Rice) Tuttle in Russell, Kentucky, during the Great Depression. Bob was a proud alumnus of the University of Kentucky (1951), where he was a trumpet player in their marching band, and a member of Theta Xi fraternity. He launched his work life at the age of 15 working for the C&O railroad which provided for college tuition expenses. After graduation from UK, he enlisted in the U.S.Army (Korean War). After his discharge, his degree in accounting led him to a career with Dunn and Bradstreet, Ashland Oil, finally retiring from the Department of Defense Office of Budget Management, U.S. Air Force.

In 1952, Bob married his childhood sweetheart and eternal love, Lenora “Jo” (Holbrook) Tuttle. Over the next 70 years they welcomed four daughters, five grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.

Bob was a proud member of the American Legion, Leasure-Blackston Post 239, an Honor Flight recipient and an active volunteer with Wreaths Across America. He was a former Boy Scout Master and loved helping with Eagle Scout activities. He served as a neighborhood Block Watch Captain and was a graduate of the Citizen’s Police Academy. Bob was also a proud member of the C&O Historical Society, Worthington Historical Society, American Society of Military Comptrollers – serving as Chairman of the Executive Committee, National PDI (1995). Bob also received the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s highest honor when he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel.

Bob loved his annual trip with his family to the Ohio State Fair where each trip would end with a ride on the skyride and a kiss at the top from his wife. He enjoyed all things patriotic – especially parades. Bob was a passionate gardener, avid auction attendee, and forever a fan of White Castle sliders. He also enjoyed traveling to historic sites across the United States and Europe, often sharing his vivid memories of WWII.

Bob was an example of a man driven by purpose and faith in God. He was a lifelong member of the Latter Day Saints Church. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, heart of gold, loving kindness, generosity and patience with everyone he encountered. He would never hesitate to help someone in need. Bob’s legacy will live on forever through the many stories he (and Jo) shared with family and friends and the memories of those who had the opportunity to know him. He will be forever missed. Bob was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Bill Tuttle, sister-in-law Betty Tuttle, sister Freida Young and brother-in-law Bill Young.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo, his daughters and their families, Joyce (Edward) Brand, Amy (Ted) Galbreath, Tamara (David) Noel, and Robin Tuttle; five grandchildren Ben (Kelli) Galbreath, Joellen (Matt) Schibler, Bethany (Brad) Willeford, Judson (Mary Alice) Noel, and Kate Noel. As well as thirteen great-grandchildren, Koen, Lily and Eli Galbreath, Madelyn, Luke, Zachary, and Nicholas Schibler, and Mary Jo, David, Alan, Jonathan, Robin Jane and Katherine Joyce Noel.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff at Wesley Glen and Mount Carmel Hospice for their professionalism, kindness, empathy and outstanding care.

Visitation will be held at Schoedinger Worthington on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM with services to follow at 12 noon. Interment with military honors will be at Flint Road Cemetery in Sharon Township.
