Bob Wicks, age 71, of Columbus, OH, passed away February 26, 2022. Bob was born in Cleveland, OH to the late Paul and Elsa Wicks. He grew up in Euclid, Ohio, graduating from Euclid High School, further education at the University of Cincinnati with a BBA in Accounting, attended Cincinnati Law School and a graduate degree from The Ohio State University with a Masters of Arts from the School of Public Policy and Management. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
Bob was a man of many hats. Not only did he have many diverse occupations, interests, talents, hobbies, groups of friends and acquaintances, he could never resist the purchase of a new chapeau. He was a thorough accountant by trade and training, held various sales and sales management positions related to automobiles, spent a number of years in the business and sales of Computers and Business Systems, worked at The Ohio State University Office of Minority Affairs in data and tech, numerous years as Finance Director for several non-profits, to his semi-retirement with Target and Trinity Episcopal Church Downtown as finance administrator and building manager.
Bob played Club Soccer while at the University of Cincinnati, played in numerous Dart Leagues including the Central Ohio Dart League, Campus and Bar & Tavern Leagues. Bowling was a childhood talent, played softball with the Bar & Tavern League, enjoyed golf with friends and in a league (always for enjoyment and ride in the cart). He was a member of the Miniature & Gaming Association at OSU, spending many hours working on his various miniature figures, battleships, WW1 & WW2 Airdrome models and battle scenarios, Board Games and D&D, attending Gaming conventions such as Origins, Gencon & Cincicon and was often a Game-Master. Bob was well known for his connection to the 4th of July DooDah Parade as a "DisOrganizer" and a "Co-Cap-e-tan" of T-Shirts Sales with his "Co-Cap-e-tan" Sharon and a goal of selling every last shirt to help fund the parade (spectators looked for the man in the Flamingo hat). He was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan, loved sportscar racing, working with the Sports Car Club at the races at Mid-Ohio. For more than 30 years, Bob spent summer evenings in his 3rd baseline season seats at Cooper Stadium and Huntington Park, staying to the very end of the game no matter what. He had too many "Bobisms" to quote but lived by many and amused folks by the rest. He marched to his own drummer and danced to his own melody. Bob loved music, especially Ragtime, Stride, blues, military band, along with many other genres and was a dedicated, loyal member, volunteer and fan of WCBE 90.5FM. He never started a book that he did not read to the end. He believed in treating people with respect and was honest to a fault.
Bob will be so very missed by his wife, partner and best friend, Sharon Young, along with his brother Kenneth Wicks and sister-in-law Joyce Wicks of Ridgefield WA, nieces Kelly Wicks and Katie Barnum, great nieces Nickie Parker, Madison Parker, Paulina Kalmbach and great nephew Eric Barnum of Vancouver WA, and many friends and acquaintances.
A "Celebration of Bob's Life" will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 3:00pm at Trinity Episcopal Church Downtown, 125 E. Broad Street, Columbus OH 43215.
