Rosemary Hammel Bean, age 78, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 5, 1945, in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Arthur Robert and Marion Hammel. Rosemary is survived by sons, Eric (Beth), Ryan (Jordan Valenzuela), granddaughter, Mary, along with many other dear family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by ex-husband Thomas Bean, sister Susan Hammel Vespo and brother Robert A. Hammel.
Rosemary grew up one of twelve siblings and is survived by Francine Underwood, Margaret Surbaugh Morris, Barbara Shambo, Bernadette Clifford, Dennis Hammel, Jefferey Hammel, Tom Hammel, John Hammel and Jim Hammel. She loved her siblings and growing up in such a large family led to her life’s work and passion of helping take care others.
She married Thomas Bean while he was on military leave in Japan and honeymooned in Hawaii, a place she loved and spent long periods of time later in life. Graduating from Indiana School of Nursing, her career only came second to her two children, whom she made sure had every opportunity to grow into independent and creative adults.
Her life found her moving every few years with her husband with stints in Indianapolis, Indiana; Southfield, Michigan; Vienna, Virginia; South Bend, Indiana; Hudson, Ohio; and then to Salt Lake City, Utah. Throughout these years, she built a nursing career, strong friendships and developed many hobbies, including antiques, painting and reading.
While she technically retired from nursing, she never quit taking care of others. Helping friends, family and anyone she could was her life’s calling.
Family will receive friends Saturday June 17, 2023, from 1-3PM at SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 6699 N High Street. Please share a memory or send condolences to Rosemary’s family.
