

Walter Edward Schwartz, III, born in Columbus, OH on May 23, 1930—passed away on December 17, 2022 at age 92—in his home in Worthington, OH. Walter was the son of Walter Edward Schwartz, Jr. (Columbus, OH) and Laverne Dodson (Waverly, OH).
Walt met the love of his life, Shirley, while they were both working at the Columbus Dispatch newspaper. Married in 1956, they moved to Worthington, OH in 1957 and welcomed their daughter Carol Anne in 1958. In 1961, son Carl Eric was born.
Walt continued his commercial artist career at the Columbus Dispatch until his retirement in 1990. Always drawing and sketching, Walt created so many wonderful memories for family and friends through his art. Also an avid carpenter, Walt designed and built toys, a backyard jungle gym, dollhouses, furniture for family members, and so much more. He loved tinkering with anything mechanical, watching classic movies, eating home-cooked meals, listening to big band swing, and simply being with his family, friends, and his beloved dogs.
Walt cherished and dearly loved his family. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Walt is survived by his two children: Carol Lang of Columbus, OH (husband John) and Eric Schwartz of Marblehead, MA; as well as grandsons Graham Schwartz (GA) and Ian Schwartz (MN).
The funeral will be a private ceremony with close family members present.
