Will Chavez, age 78, passed away July 4th, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Will spent his youth in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from DeSales High School before answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the Medic Corp at Vandenberg Air Force Base carrying with him a deep sense of duty, integrity, and patriotism throughout his life. Following his military service, he was a respiratory therapist at Columbus Children’s Hospital where he and his wife met. Thereafter he dedicated more than 30 years to the Defense Supply Center of Columbus as a military contract specialist, where he was respected for his commitment and professionalism.
Above all else, Will was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Ruth, whose love and partnership were the foundation of their family.
He leaves behind his wife Ruth, and children Jennifer, Jason (Lindsay), Scott (Annelie), and Stephanie Chavez, all of whom he loved deeply and was immensely proud of. He was also a cherished grandfather to Brady, Vivian, Cooper, Noelle, Elliana, and Dylan, who brought him endless joy and pride. Will was the oldest of eight siblings: four sisters and three brothers, who survive him and reside across Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Will found happiness in life's simple pleasures, especially watching classic Westerns, following Nascar racing and working on his classic Dodge Challenger.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, July 9, from 2:00 pm to 5:00pm, at Schoedinger Worthington, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio. Please join if you can for a funeral service that will follow at 5:00 p.m.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
