Mother. Grandmother. Teacher. Believer. Aileen Morin accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the tender age of 3. She remembers it clearly and said she ‘just knew’ that relationship would change her life. It did. On June 3rd, 2018, surrounded by her daughters and dear friends, the Lord called Aileen home. Free of pain for the first time in decades, she ran into the arms of her Heavenly Father. Oh, to have witnessed that moment! Aileen touched so many lives in 75 years. From the mission fields of Cambodia to churches and schools in Tacoma and Yakima. She dedicated her life to serving others and sharing God’s word. So many people loved and treasured this woman.
Aileen’s life began in Tacoma on January 26, 1943. Her parents were John and Evelyn Frater. She grew up as an only child, but longed for Shirley, the older sister she lost and could never find. Aileen attended Stadium High School and studied English and music at the University of Puget Sound. She became a teacher at her mother’s urging, but it turned out to be more than just a career. It was a calling. Working with young people and helping them learn and grow brought Aileen so much joy. She always retained a childlike curiosity that helped her bond with students. She created curriculums and teaching methods that transformed lives.
Aileen married Leo Morin and they raised 4 daughters: Michele, Maria, Mary and Melinda. She cherished her role as grandma to Lexie, Mikayla, Freddy, Kyle, Matthew, Crystal, Kaitlyn and Michael.
Life wasn’t always easy for Aileen, but her faith never wavered. She’s one of the strongest women I’ve ever known and a true survivor. It’s no surprise that her favorite bible verse is Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Aileen defied the odds over and over again. We’re heartbroken that we can’t see and talk to her face to face now, but it lifts our spirits to picture her dancing and singing in Heaven. And talking. There will be lots of talking. These lyrics from ‘Christ Alone’ reflect Aileen’s patient and faithful journey: ‘No guilt in life, no fear in death. This is the power of Christ in me; from life’s first cry to final breath. Jesus commands my destiny.’
You are free now mom and you are home. Until we meet again one day, we’ll picture you wiggling your toes in the sand in a place that looks just like Cannon Beach. We love you.
A memorial service will be held at Valley Life Church on Saturday, June 9th, 2018 at 11 am. In honor of Aileen, we are requesting bright beach type attire to celebrate her life. Flowers can be sent to: 1709 W. Nob Hill Blvd., Yakima, WA 98902.
