Albert Leo Waltman, 92 of Yakima passed away August 20, 2018. Al was born September 8, 1925 in Glenn Cross, South Dakota to Pius and Christine Waltman. Al and his family moved to the Yakima Valley. Just down the lane from where he lived is where he met his future wife Opal (Susie). Al and Opal were married February 11, 1950.
Al and Opal had two daughters, Deb and Kathie. In 1954 Al became a foreman at Prentice Highland Ranch. He loved growing apples, he just loved working hard. I can never go by an orchard in the fall without remembering my dad and the close knit community around us out in the West Valley. He retired in 1996. Al and Opal had a wide range of friends. They loved going to German dances and doing the Polka. What a workout that was. My mom and dad loved to bowl and they were on a team for several years. Al was also a volunteer firefighter with the West Valley Fire Department. Al loved sports, all sports, but he really loved college sports the best. His number one team was the Gonzaga Bulldogs. He never missed watching any of their games. My dad had the best sense of humor, and some of my fondest memories are sitting with him and watching the great old comedy shows like Red Skelton and Jonathan Winters. He was loving and supportive in every way. We will miss him every day.
Al is survived by his daughter Kathie (Larry) Chartier, grandson Ian Chartier, granddaughter Bella Chartier, granddaughter Kaci Kepferle Garland (Chris), granddaughter Megan Kepferle, grandson Chase Kepferle, great-grandson Patrick Garland and great-granddaughter Emily Garland, and sisters Hilda (Ken) Gallipo, and Gwen (Ron) Druce.
Al is preceded in death by his father Pius, his mother Christine, his wife Opal and his daughter Deb (Mike) Kepferle, his grandson Patrick Kepferle, sisters: Barbara (Mark) Selzler, Rita (Bill) Yates, and Adele (John) Dauenhauer, brothers: Ray Waltman, Tony Waltman, Pete (Helen) Waltman, Willy Waltman, Harvey (Marie) Waltman and Jerry (Gloria) Waltman.
A service will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home.
