She grew up in Indiana and moved to Houston, Texas at the age of 21 with her new husband, Joe Haslet, whom she married on July 4, 1940 in Indianapolis.
Joe always kidded that the Fourth of July was the day he lost his independence. The truth of the matter is that marrying Mom was the best decision of his life.
Their loving and supportive union continued for over 63 years until Joe passed away in 2003. Mom and Dad were transferred to Yakima (a town they had never heard of) in early 1942 and Yakima soon felt like home. Mom was a "stay at home mom". She was active in Junior Century Club, Women's Century Club, HH Skinner Hospital Guild and First Presbyterian Church. She was also a loyal volunteer at Memorial Hospital for many years.
Mom met people easily and had many cherished friends. She loved playing cards, and bridge provided her countless hours of companionship. Her last bridge session included four wonderful ladies who had known each other for over sixty years. Mom made her home at Living Care Retirement Community for thirteen years where she received loving care.
She is survived by her two sons, Bill Haslet (Chauni) of Issaquah, Steve Haslet (Christine) of San Diego and a daughter, Jean Sentz (Jay) of Yakima, eight grandchildren and 21 precious great grandchildren.
At Mom's request, there will be no service. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to Living Care (Yakima's faith based retirement community) or to a charity of the donor's choice.
