Andy was an orchardist in the Yakima Valley for over 60 years and had just recently retried two years prior.
One of his greatest accomplishments was his service to The Naches Heights Fire Department #9. In 1950, at the ripe young age of 17, Andy was part of the original team whom created the volunteer department for the community. Over the years he moved up the ranks from Firefighter, to Captain, and then went on to serve as a Fire Commissioner.
Andy’s work ethic and integrity was impeccable, and he brought joy to all whom he met. As his children were growing up, the Evans’ household was always open to any of their friends and was often a full house!
After retirement, Andy also served as a member of the Knights of Columbus for Holy Family Catholic Church and was a devoted Grandpa to his children’s children and many others as well.
Andy was preceded in death by his wife June E. Blondin. He is survived by his children, Gary Evans, Michele Martin and husband Steve, Marla Newman and husband Randy, Lisa Martin-Babineaux, and husband Jim, and Lori Evans; In addition, his grandchildren, Trevor Martin and his wife Kendell, Meagan Martin, Patrick Newman, Ryan Martin, Matthew Newman, Ben Newman, and Drew Martin. His great grandchildren are Lillian Martin, Paige Martin, and Noah Martin.
In lieu of flowers, the family wants donations sent to The Naches Heights Fire Department #9 in honor or Andy’s 65 years of service.
One of Andy’s favorite things to say was, “It’s no big deal.”
Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 9, 2015 at St. Paul Cathedral at 10 a.m., burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.
