Bertha Dauenhauer passed away at the age of 82 on May 6, 2020. She was born in her paternal grandparent’s home in Dickinson, ND on October 8, 1937 to John and Marcia (Walter) Braun. They moved to Yakima in 1947, and in 1948, her folks changed their last name to the English spelling, Brown. Bertha graduated from Yakima High School in 1957. She married Marvin Schmierer on November 16, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Church in Yakima, Washington. They had 24 ½ years together before his passing in 1988.
She retired after 33 years from 5th Ave Bi-Mart. She missed her customers and co-workers but she said, “You must close one door so another can be opened” On August 5, 1996, she married Paul Dauenhauer, who passed away on February 8, 1998. After retiring, she enjoyed being with her two grandsons, and had one room set up for their Lagos and train sets, which was a delight to see the changes that they came up with.
She also was a caregiver to her mother for 5 years. Those were good years, learning and reminiscing. She also enjoyed getting together with former co-workers and other friends and relatives. She was member of the Holy Redeemer Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Cochran, her grandsons John and Jerry Cochran, Brother Ted (Peggy) Brown, all of Yakima.
A private Graveside Service will be held at Calvary Cemetery
