Our Mother, Grandmother (“Gram”), Friend, Companion, Betty Marcia Putman, went home with the Lord on November 10, 2011. She is one that is never to be forgotten for her presence always lit up a room. She lived a life full of grace, dignity, and a spirit that will remain in our hearts forever.
She was born June 1, 1922 to Eva and William Cunningham in Everett, WA. She was the last remaining child of 14 siblings. She was also the “glue” that kept our large family bound together. She loved family with all her heart, including her extensive family of wonderful nieces and nephews.
Betty and Robert “Put” Putman eloped on Feb. 9, 1942 in Coeur d ‘Alene, Idaho. She followed Put to California where he was stationed at the beginning of the war. Betty worked many years in various car agencies in and around the Seattle area. After retiring, she and Put built their home at Wye Lake, where they shared many fond memories with family and friends.
At the young age of 89, Betty always had a smile on her face, an everlasting humor, and a sensitive spirit that even a Hallmark card would write about. But what brought her the most joy, other than all of her children, was her music. It brought peace to her heart and an appreciation for all God’s great gifts. It didn’t take much to bring a tear to her big Irish heart.
There will always be so many memories, moments of love and laughter that will be remembered, as she was a person who demonstrated that every day of her life. Days on the lake, holding and reading with her children and grandchildren, and travelling extensively with her husband.
Betty is survived by her two sons, Craig (Susan) of Wapato, Thomas (Wendy) of Spokane; son-in-law, Ron Barhorst of Yakima; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter Nancy Barhorst, and her grandson Travis Putman.
Betty never knew a stranger. She had a very special place in her heart for her friends: Roxy Richards, Pam and Ken Smith Family, Jule Lebeau, her prayer group family, Alma Carlton, and all her friends at the Rexford Manor Retirement Apartments. Also, a very special thanks to Sheila, Pam, Olga, and Pastor Dan. You are angels in our eyes.
