Bonnie Merie Williams entered this world on July 3, 1940. Born to Ray and Octa (Hovis) Williams in Olathe, Colorado. She was born at their home.
In late December of 1945 Bonnie’s family left Colorado headed for Washington hoping for better job opportunities.
Bonnie started her education in Toppenish but In Sept 1950 her mother, father, youngest sister and two brothers moved back to Colorado. She then attended grades 4-9th in Olathe and Delta, Colorado. In 1956 they moved back to Washington – this time to Wapato, WA- where she completed her sophomore year.
In 1957 Bonnie met Donald Luttrell who lived across the street. They were married 46 years when Donald passed away on December 28th 2003. They had 4 sons Doyle, Greg, Norman & Lynn.
Bonnie was very proud of her sons. Even though sometimes they probably wondered. She loved being involved in their lives. She attended their sports activities and achievements they were involved in throughout their school year and summer Pee-Wee Baseball games. This was true with her grandchildren as well.
Bonnie grew up wanting to be a teacher. So in 1967 she attended night classes to earn a G.E.D. 1970 brought employment with the Wapato School District. This lead to 24 years of employment in some way with the district. In 1978 while working days at school she started attending night classes with what became Heritage College in Toppenish. In 1984 she graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education.
Bonnie loved children and loved working with them. She loved seeing the light turn on in their eyes when they realized they could do something they thought they couldn’t do. She worked with Special Needs children for 12 years. She also was a substitute teacher 4 years. She spent 8 years as a Primary and Intermediate Library Tutor.
Bonnie retired in the spring of 1995 due to on coming health problems and also to help with her grandchildren Matthew, Jessica, and Donovan Then seven years later Don and Bonnie were blessed with a daughter in-law Mari and then with Granddaughter Hannah Merie. Bonnie’s sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye.
Bonnie accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. Oh yes, Bonnie herself would tell you she made some real mistakes and was far from perfect, but she was lovingly and marvelously forgiven through Jesus death and blood at Calvary.
Bonnie loved to sing for the Lord and often did so at church. She did a lot of solo work and helped lead the worship service at the Wapato Assembly of God from 1988-1999. She also sang at some special weddings and funeral.
Her desire was that people could see Jesus in and through me and in some way I made a difference in yours and others lives. I desired to see people coming to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
