Carroll was born October 12, 1929, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Ira and Florence Pewitt.
In 1946, Carroll moved with his family from Dodge City, Kansas to Nampa, Idaho. He attended the Nazarene Academy and Northwest Nazarene College until 1948, when he went to work for Fuller Paint Company.
In 1949, Carroll married Kaliroy (Kalie) Stathopulos in Nampa, Idaho. Carroll worked for Fuller Paint Company for 15 years in Nampa and Twin Falls, Idaho.
In 1963, Carroll and Kalie moved to Ontario, Oregon, where they continued raising their family. They co-owned Ontario Paint and Glass with A.B. Ellis, which they operated until 1984. Carroll then worked for Ponderosa Paint, managing Nampa Paint and Glass and opening additional store locations in Idaho and Utah until retiring in 1991.
Carroll loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping out in RVs with friends and family in Washington and Oregon. In 1977, they bought property and later built a cabin in High Valley Park at Packwood, Washington. They loved to feed the birds and elk and watch wildlife, and spent many happy times sitting around the campfire with family and friends. After retiring, Carroll and Kalie moved to High Valley and lived there full-time for five years before buying a second home in Yakima. Shortly before his death, Carroll wrote in a notebook that they had owned the High Valley property for 35 years and 135 days. It was his heaven on earth.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Russell Clinton. He is survived by his wife Kalie, and their children Carolyn (Rex) Marble, Meridian, Idaho; Brian (Edna) Pewitt, Reedsport, Oregon; Drucilla (Rick) Trenkenschuh, Yakima; and Jana (Scott) Bourne, Las Vegas, Nevada.
One of Carroll’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by six grandchildren: Amanda and Zachary Marble; Ashley, Joe and Samuel Trenkenschuh; and Jacob Pewitt; and two great grandchildren: Alison and Katie Marble.
Carroll is also survived by one brother, Donald Pewitt, Sedro-Woolley, Washington, and three sisters: Evelyn (Keith) Cummings, Ellensburg, Washington; Barbara Keene, Boise, Idaho; and Wanda (Jim) Belisle, Spokane, Washington.
