After a courageous three year battle with cancer, Chuck Adkins, 54, passed away Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. He was born June 3, 1957 to Don and Bobbie Adkins in Seattle, WA.
The family moved to Brownstown in 1958 and purchased Lindsey Lockers. The youngest of three children, he was often found sleeping on a 50 lb bag of flour near the checkstand as a toddler. He thoroughly enjoyed all the trappings of growing up in a rural area. Hunting and motorcycles were high on the list of activities that followed him throughout his lifetime.
Chuck graduated from Wapato High School in 1975. He began working at White Swan Lumber Company and later joined Husch & Husch, Inc. completing 24 years of dedicated service. He was in charge of cooking the ribs for the annual customer appreciation Christmas party.
On August 17, 1991 he married Mary Simonson and family life became his number one priority. His daughter, Chelsea, was born soon after and four years later josh arrived. Camping trips, four-wheeling, and bird hunting were some of the activities Chuck loved to do with his kids. He also enjoyed playing golf with his father and brother. Vacation trips to Disneyland, Lincoln City, Wallace, Idaho and the San Juan Islands were treasured family moments. Once the kids were in sports, he never missed an event. He was able to attend six state champion tournaments while Chelsea played soccer and basketball. He was so proud watching Josh play football, basketball, track and golf. He truly loved the St. Joseph Marquette and La Salle community with a strong emphasis on academics and family.
Chuck was a founding member of the Duck Club in Toppenish and took great pride in cooking monster breakfast burritos for anyone who showed up. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. In the past year, he enjoyed playing horseshoes with Ken Gasseling on Sunday afternoons. He was a voracious reader and treasured his Louis L’Amour collection.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughter, Chelsea; son, Josh of Wapato; brother, and brother Don (Mary) of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Judi. Chuck is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to Dr. Tony Ha, radiologist Cheryl Davidson and the wonderful nurses, staff and volunteers at North Star Lodge along with the compassionate nurses and caretakers at Memorial Hospital. You were our angels.
A special thank you to Husch & Husch, Inc. for their continued support.
