What a privilege it has been to have been a nephew of Aunt Charlotte.  We lived next door to Charlotte and Joe; our house number was 1402 and theirs' was 1405.  To this day, I remember her phone number as GL-39702 (GL for Glencourt.) All phones were rotary dial and wired to the wall. Somewhere in the 1960s the phone companies switched to all numeric phone numbers.  My earliest memories come from the 1950s when, as a pre-teen, I would venture across the street to play with a succession of toddler cousins. I had a great time giving piggy-back rides and dropping to all fours to mimic a charging bull.  They would squeal with delight when I head-butted their torsos but their small hands would grab my hair tight enough to give pause to second thoughts.  In my teen years, I would go over on weekends to read the sports results in the morning newspapermy family opted for the evening edition.  Almost always children would be heard before the door opened and once inside Aunt Charlotte would give everyone a cheerful, enthusiastic welcome.  The aroma of coffee was a constant.  TV antennas aimed at Ahtanum Ridge to pull in the one black and white channel available dotted the rooftops. Orchards loomed nearby and school children safely crossed 16th and Lennox Avenues with minimal delay as traffic was light on these two-way streets.  Charlotte's children were replaced by grandchildren.  Anyone arriving at the door to 1405 would still receive the same warm greeting and smell the fresh coffee.  Push button phones were in and TV channels jumped to four, in color no less.  Time became a blur.  Orchards became housing, strip malls or schools.  Lennox Ave was renamed Nob Hill Blvd and widened to four lanes as was 16th Ave.  Cable and satellite television came as did the internet and cell phones.  But at 1405, there was still the laughter of children, the aroma of coffee, baked goods on good days, with Aunt Charlotte in the middle of it all intent on learning the details of the good things happening in a visitor's life.  Grandchildren had become great-grandchildren and/or honorary grandchildren.  One had to marvel at her energy!   Aunt Charlotte had the right priorities; she chose them early in life and stuck with them.  The neighborhood changed, everyone moved, everything in the world changedexcept Aunt Charlotte behind the door at 1405.  Oh, she aged but the youthful enthusiasm was still very evident.  I have fond memories of shared day-trips seeking bluebirds and wildflowers in the Bickleton or Wenas areas.  A simple picnic sandwich in a rustic setting spiked with laughter.  It will take time to fully realize that there will be silence behind the door of 1405.  For sixty-five years, that door was a gateway to so much love and was an anchor to so many!  May our sadness be tempered in the knowledge that a new door has opened for Aunt Charlotte.  One that will never close.

Our heart sadness but you are with our lord. We have been blessed to have you be our parents neighbor. My Son Alano always loved getting candy from you and was excited to know he had a great Grammy. Made our trip to yakima extra special. You will never be forgotten and we will carry your memory in our hearts. May God bless your family.

Loved going to Aunt Charlotte's house she would open the door and say,"Hey kid come on in let me get the coffee. " Her laughter and free spirit always put a smile on my face. She loved each person who came to her door. Unconditional love for so many. Loved growing up with the best of both worlds Grandma Betty in one house Great Aunt Charlotte in another. When I struggled with reading as a young child she gave her undivided time to me as I got to read to her the scriptures in her last days. What a pioneer, rock and strength she has been to all. Rest now and enjoy your walks on the streets of gold. Love you much and never forgotten.

Grandma Charlotte was a blessing that was sent to our Valencia family feom God himself. She was always there for me as a young boy and she would give me a ride to school out of the kindness of her heart and for that i thank her .She truely was an amazing disciple that the Lord himself put here on earth. She always went out of her way to do things for the Valencia granchildren, remembering 16 of the childrens names, giving them sweets and hugs qas truely what a grandma was mean to do, Charlotte did just that ! She was an amazing neighbor friend and 3rd grandma to all of our Valencia children. Thank you for everything you ever did for us as your neighbors,friends,and grandma 3 . we love you Charlotte and I know you are among God himself doing what you loved most! Taking care of your flowers and caring for other people like always. We love you charlotte. VALENCIA FAMILY

She was always a bastion of warmth, smiles and always light of heart. You couldn't walk into her home without a heartfelt smile and thankful greeting. My guess is she has the coffee pot going already for her dear friends and family whom she now shares eternity.

Charlotte was a fabulous lady and I thank God for bringing her in our lives.  I can't thank her enough for all she did for us.  Loving her and cherishing each moment was an honor.  She loved my children like her own grandchildren and for that I am grateful.  She had a heart of gold and loved beyond all.  She will always be my children's great grandma and for that I am happy to say, she was family to us.

Hard to find someone with a bigger heart. One of my favorite places to go when I would visit Washington as a kid. So many toys, a swing in the back, and great root beer floats with Popsicles.

Great Aunt Charlotte was one of a kind. She always had a smile, hug and coffee and cookies anytime you came to visit her. I loved growing up next door to her and our families and listening to all the great stories her and Grandma Tormaschy used to tell us. She was the last matriarch to our family history. I pray for her and our families that she has found peace. She is now enjoying coffee with Grandma, Uncle Bob and Aunt Jeanette. Wish I could be there for the funeral but I will be there in spirit. Aunt Charlotte was mom's favorite aunt. She spoke highly of her. She was a wonderful lady who brought love, happiness and spark to those around her. Loved getting to visit with her the other summer.
