We lost our primary source of entertainment on Monday, September 23, 2019, when Daniel Roger Soucy, 75, passed away in Yakima after a brief illness. Dan was born on May 31, 1944 in Lynn, Massachusetts, and lived with his family there until he enlisted in the US Navy. He served a four-year tour of duty, and continued to live in the Greater Boston area until he relocated to the Seattle area in 1978, and then to Selah, WA in 1994.
Dan was well known around the Yakima Valley because of his long involvement in AA and with a host of AA friends. Dan had a handyman business for a number of years and made hundreds of repairs and remodels, built decks and fences and all manner of things. He was also a craftsman and made toys and furniture for his family and friends. He always had a story or a joke to tell, and he loved to be with people. His most recent post-retirement job was at Lowe’s, where he worked (or told stories) part time for several years. He thoroughly enjoyed his time at Lowe’s and made lots of friends there.
Dan loved life and had many adventures over the years, including membership in a motorcycle club with its many rides, campouts, dances and pot lucks. Enduring friendships were made during those years. He fulfilled a life-long dream by traveling to Australia in 2016 with Jean and friends. Dan loved spending time with his grandchildren and taught them many things over the years, possibly including some questionable language.
Dan leaves his wife, Jean Brewer; his siblings, Janice Flaherty and Bob Soucy; two sons, Scott and Michael Soucy and their families; his daughter Danielle Soucy and her family; two step-daughters, Tracy Daniels and her family, and Tami Brewer; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Marguerite Soucy, and his brother Gerald Soucy. He will be sorely missed by many, but by none more than his wife and children.
There will be a celebration of Dan’s life in the Fellowship Hall at the Selah United Church, 1061 Selah Loop Road, Selah, WA at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 5, 2019.
