Daniel Earl York, 50, of Yakima died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010. Daniel was born in Terrell, TX on Nov. 5, 1959 to Daniel R. York and Betty (Rus) York. He moved with his family to Tacoma at the age of 6 and lived there until he entered the Air Force. Dan was in the Air Force for 6 years after which he moved to the Yakima Valley and found a job working for the City of Yakima at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. During his 26 years of service, he established many great friendships. In July of 1988, he met and married his first wife, Sandy. They had one daughter together, Hilary, which he adored and was so proud of. From the time Hilary could walk, Dan taught her the love of soccer and he loved coaching the Blaster’s soccer team for many years.
As a young boy, Dan enjoyed racing Quarter Midgets with his father and sister, Rhonda. He had a great love for the outdoors and spent as much time outside as possible. As an adult, he enjoyed hiking, fishing, bike riding, hunting, boating, and horseback riding. What really brought out Dan’s true talent was his love of wood crafting. Wood crafting led to Dan’s creativity of becoming an artist who carved wood with a chainsaw!
In December 2008, Dan found his soulmate and best friend, Tami. They were married in August 2009 on a beautiful beach in Oregon. Dan and Tami spent the last year sharing their love of horses and archery. Dan was an avid bow hunter and Tami really enjoyed spending time in the mountains learning the sport and being his second pair of eyes. Dan was also proud to share the sport with his stepson, Devlin, and enjoyed teaching the love of the bow. Tami shared her love of horses with Dan and they spent many weekends up in the mountains riding. They made new friends in the Back Country Horseman. He found peace and happiness in all that he and Tami did together. Dan and Tami were inseparable and their time together was filled with love, laughter, family and friends. His loving wife Tami, family and friends will never forget him and miss him dearly.
Dan is survived by his wife, Tami of Yakima; a daughter, Hilary of Yakima; his mother, Betty (and husband John) Geier of Puyallup; his father, Daniel York, Sr. (and wife Doris) of Lakewood; a stepson, Devlin Ziegler (and wife Chanda); a sister, Rhonda Grissom (and husband Bob) of Puyallup; and a niece, Heather Probst (and husband Sean) of Puyallup.
