David A. Creighton
April 14, 1931 - November 25, 2022
David Alan Creighton was born on April 14, 1931, in Yakima, WA. To Archie and Marguerite (Greensides) Creighton. Dave was preceded in death by Marie, his wife of 56 years, and sons Bruce and Steve Hicklin. He is survived by daughter-in-law Jan Hicklin, Grand Daughters Jennifer and Kate, two Great Grand Daughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
He lived in the Terrance Heights area and went to grade school there. Then to Yakima Fairgrounds, his dad was the groundskeeper for years. Then the family moved to-Grandview WA. Dave borrowed a neighbor's girl's bicycle and hit a truck and broke his leg.
While in high school Dave drove a delivery truck for the Creighton Cartridge Company after school hours he was 16 so finally, the day came that he did get his license. That began his career as a driver of 18-wheel trucks. He joined the air force in 1951. He was a staff sergeant in the air force. He served in the Aleutian Islands after 4 years he received his discharge and then started in the fire department while stationed at Lackland air base in Texas and continued throughout his service time with the Fire Department. After his discharge he lived in Grandview WA and worked as a fireman then he moved to Yakima.
He and Marie (Evans) Hicklin were married on August 18, 1962, and Dave continued as a volunteer fireman with the Broadway fire department and his driving career began with P.I.E Transcon. Dave drove over a Million miles accident-free (one slight mishap was one week before he got married, in a yard, given he was nervous).
Dave's volunteer fireman work ended after 25 years of service. His trucking ended at the age of 50, but he continued driving 18-wheelers until age 78. Meanwhile, Dave joined the American Legion, Lions Club, and Truck association. He held a position as chaplain (now 6" District Chaplin for American Legion) and received many awards for his work in his service clubs.
Over the years he and Marie enjoyed many years of hunting, camping fishing, trips to Alaska, Florida, and Hawaii, a cruise to Ensenada, and many trips to California.
His hobbies included wood cutting and making wood toys, in his workshop.
He continued working driving forklifts in warehouses and tractors in orchards.
