

David Allen Nissen of Yakima passed away on Jan. 18, 2024 at Yakima Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 29, 1934, to Charles Kenneth and Bertha Jeanne (Graham) Nissen in Wapato, Washington.
After graduating high school, David joined the U.S. Marines, serving at Camp Pendelton and fulfilling a tour in Japan. David then started college at YVC in Yakima, went on to the University of Washington, then finally graduating with a bachelor’s degree at Central Washington State College.
He worked as a science, math and social studies teacher in Yakima’s East Valley school district where he also coached girl’s basketball. David was also an avid carpenter and an amazing woodworker. He loved to attend Seattle Sonics and Seattle Seahawks games. David and Lillian, his wife of 36 years, enjoyed country music and dancing at the local Eagle’s clubs. They traveled extensively for many years, enjoying cruises and seeing the world.
David is survived by his spouse Lillian, brother Dean Nissen (Nancy), son Mark Nissen (Mary Ann), daughter Kenda Flynn (Dan), step-son Mervyn Banks (Sharon), grandsons Mark Kenner and Kody Rainford, and great-grandson Kashton Rainford. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Kenneth and Bertha Jeanne (Graham) Nissen, and his sister Constance May Frankforter.
Visitation will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, 1 PM, at Grace of Christ church in Yakima with Curt McFarland officiating.
David will be remembered by many as a very kind and caring man.
