

Del graduated from Yakima High School, attended the University of Washington, and Linfield College. He joined the Army in 1954, and spent 2 years as an X-ray technician at Brook Army Hospital, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio TX. He then returned to Linfield College and graduated in 1958 with a Master’s Degree in Education.
He worked at McMinnville Hospital while attending Linfield, where he met Bonnie Ellis. They were married in 1956. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past December. Del worked for the Yakima School District for 36 years, teaching at Washington Junior High and AC Davis High School. A highlight for him was while at Davis he taught a student-requested, elective classes on Comparative Religions and Comparative Christianity. He was the counselor at Yakima Valley Skills Center (now YV Tech). He continued at Stanton Alternative School, working in the community getting students back into education.
Upon retirement he worked for the Juvenile Court as a liaison with the schools. For many years, Del worked part-time in X-ray at the three local hospitals, Medical Center X-ray, for Dr. C.M. Gottlieb and other local doctors. Del was a member of Yakima First Baptist Church for 70 years, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, deacon, board member, and supporter of youth work. A church mission trip to El Salvador was a highlight, where he was the official photographer. He was a member of Terrace Heights Lion’s Club, Eastridge Park Water Board, and Sun Tower board. Del was an avid, amateur photographer. His photos won several ribbons at the State Fair. He also enjoyed camping, going from tent camping to RV-ing, spending winter months in the south. He and his family traveled through 49 states, most of Canada and down Baja, California.
Del is survived by his wife Bonnie, son Guy, of San Marcos CA, daughters Jeanine (Antonio) Medina, of Bellevue, Susan (Robert) Polley of Spokane, grandchildren Antonio and Alexandra, sister Barbara Stoutenburg, of Portland, OR, and his cousins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 10th, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Rainier Memorial Center in Terrace Heights.
