Delbert "Mac" McCoy, 88 of Yakima, Washington, died unexpectedly on October 10, 2015, doing what he loved ... hunting on his annual trip with his life-long friend Bob Quesnell.
Born in Leavenworth, Washington, he was the son of the late Delbert and Ruth McCoy. He grew up in the Wenatchee Valley where he worked in the family orchards and also at the Peshastin Mill. He enlisted in the US Navy right out of high school and upon his return married his sweetheart Arloha.
Shortly after Mac and Arloha married they moved to the Seattle area where Mac worked at the Steel Mill and ultimately at Western Electric until his retirement in 1984. During his career he traveled extensively from coast to coast. They finally settled in the Yakima Valley in 1965 where he made local
history by supervising the installation of the 966 telephone numbers in the Yakima area. After retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, and both he and his wife took great pride in tending to their well- maintained orchard in Selah, Washington.
Mac, Arloha and their family were looking forward to celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary this November. He loved his family and friends very much. No one was a stranger to him. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face and always a story to tell. He especially looked forward to his Friday night poker parties with the "boys". Their poker nights were full of laughter and good times. Christmas was the "highlight" of his year. Just last Christmas he was still climbing ladders stringing the lights. The whole house was alive with the Holiday spirit.
Mac is survived by his wife Arloha and their daughters, Terry Ball (Richard), Debbie Sutton, Kit McCoy, Dru McCoy, Dawn McCoy, Kathy Chenez, his sister Emma Ruth Stump, six grandchildren, Brandon, Aimee, Jennifer, Ryan, Ashli, Matthew, eight great-grandchildren and his "adopted boys" Bob and Chad
Quesnell.
Please join the "McCoy" family for a celebration of Mac's life on Saturday, October 24, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 26A located in the Red Lion Hotel, 607 East Yakima Avenue.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Union Gospel Mission or The Cottage in The Meadow.
Mac ... You are gone but your memories will live on. We love you.
