Dennie passed away suddenly on Friday, June 15th, 2018. He was 66. Though he had suffered a stroke several years ago and was unable to get out and about much, he was happy living in the family home in Selah. Dennie was born in El Paso, Texas, but lived all of his life in the Yakima Valley. Dennie graduated from Selah High School in 1970 and held several degrees from Central Washington University. He was a house painter by trade and often times would paint in exchange for a plate of chocolate chip cookies. Dennie lived life on his own terms.
Dennie was a little league coach for many years and the team he coached was always named after his favorite team, the Cubs. His life dream was realized when the Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series. He enjoyed the outdoors, growing peonies, Selah Community Days, antiquing, and was resolute in trying to solve numerous unsolved crime cases and unravel conspiracy theories. He never met a stranger, would always greet you with a warm smile, and be the one who walked you to the car after a family gathering.
Dennie is survived by his sisters, Debra Schutz, Dianne Ryan (Ray Lamb) and Denise Wulfekuhle (Tim); five nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts and cousins. His cousin, Alicia, was particularly close to him. A special thank you to her for the unwavering love and compassion she always showed him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Corinne Stewart, infant brother, Darrell Stewart, infant nephew, Raymond Jr. Lamb, and his brother-in-law, Rick Schutz.
A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 21st, at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.keithandkeith.com.
