Dennis Eugene Seaman

Dennis was born on December 18, 1944, in Spalding, Nebraska, to Bernard and Maxine Seaman. In 1950, the family moved to the Yakima Valley, where he was raised and attended Central Catholic School, graduating with the Class of 1963.

In 1966, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany for three years, he attained the rank of SP5 (T) before receiving an honorable discharge. Through the GI Bill, he graduated in 1971 from Eastern Washington University earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology.

Following graduation, Dennis began a distinguished career with the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. Over the course of 39 years, he faithfully served the citizens of Washington before retiring in 2012.

Beyond his career, Dennis found joy in traveling, especially throughout Europe. Germany held a special place in his heart, and he treasured returning to reconnect with lifelong friends and revisit the country where he had served as a young soldier. The friendships he formed during his military service remained among the most treasured relationships of his life.

A lifelong learner with a deep appreciation for the natural world and history, he was a longtime member of the National Audubon Society and the Smithsonian Institution. These interests reflected his curiosity about the world and his enjoyment of exploring it through both travel and study.

Dennis deeply appreciated the time spent with family. Beginning in 2016, he faithfully attended the annual "Seaman Family Invasion" at Lake Curlew, where he delighted in sharing stories, laughter, and creating memories for future generations. Family members will always remember his famous jet ski ride while fully dressed and sporting his beloved Gilligan hat—moments that never failed to bring smiles and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Maxine Seaman, and his brother, David Seaman.

He is lovingly remembered by his brother, Dan (Dena) Seaman of Selah, and his sister-in-law Rose Seaman, widow of his brother David, of Yakima; their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with extended family members and many dear friends who were blessed by his kindness and friendship.

His family finds comfort in knowing that he now rests in God's eternal peace.

A Committal Service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, 1405 S 24th Ave, Yakima, WA 98902, US, on August 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
