Dewena was born in Denison, Texas on June 29, 1959 to Dewey and Sara Phillips. She moved around to a few different states before settling down in Yakima. She worked for over 20 years caring for those with developmental disabilities. She went above and beyond advocating for the clients in her care. This could also be seen in her personal life – she always put others before herself and wanted to make sure everyone was happy. She absolutely loved being out in nature – especially trout fishing, camping, and driving around mountain roads blasting Pink Floyd in her red Toyota Tacoma (her baby). She also had a passion for barbecuing and could make some killer BBQ ribs.
She is survived by her sons, Kevin and Chris (Kelsey) Cunningham, her daughter Amanda Phillips, sister Serena (Buddy) Hempkins, and grandchildren Dhreaven, Dheaven and Corben.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to North Star, Memorial Palliative Care and the Cottage in the Meadow, for their support and care, and the dignity they showed in caring for Dewena.
A Celebration of Life will be held and details concerning the event will be mailed out to friends and family.
“Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” We love you.
