To know mom was to love her, to be loved by her meant being cared for wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Diana “Dee” Huck passed away unexpectedly on April 28th, 2026. Her passing came just one day before her beloved husband Dave, who passed away 29 years ago on April 29th. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing our parents are together once again.
Dee was born May 24th, 1943 in Yakima, Washington to Frank Fewel and Betty (Fewel) Shephard. Raised in Naches, she built a life rooted in family, farming and community. From an early age, she embraced the values of hard work, kindness and selflessness. Dee was known for her gracious spirit, her generous heart, and her ability to always see the good in others. If someone needed help, she was there without hesitation, always caring and never expecting anything in return. Her compassion and unwavering love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Dee graduated from Naches High School in 1961. She was involved in a variety of high school clubs and activities where she was a cheerleader, served on the Miss Sportsman’s Day court, and was part of Homecoming royalty. During her sophomore year, she met the love of her life, Dave Huck, her high school sweetheart. They married on June 10th, 1961. She said her greatest accomplishment was the family she and dad built together. Family was the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater joy than having everyone together, surrounded by laughter, storytelling and a little chaos.
Dee worked as the bookkeeper for D&D Huck Orchards up until the day she passed. In 1963, Dave and Dee purchased their first orchard in Lower Naches. It was 15 acres, 5 of the acers were planted into Red Delicious apples. With three little kids in tow, mom helped plant the rest of the property to tree fruit by hand. While dad worked for National Grocer during the week, he would help mom farm on the weekends. After 18 years, dad left his job to help mom farm full time. In 1976, mom and dad purchased the ranch house and orchard where she currently resided. This was the beginning of expanding their business and purchasing numerous ranches throughout the Naches Valley.
She especially loved decorating for the holidays. Walking into her home felt magical, as every season was beautifully and thoughtfully displayed throughout her home. One of her greatest joys was keeping a “grandkids” tree up year-round, decorated with photos and handmade treasurers from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her home was warm, welcoming, and always open to family and friends. She loved her dog Bella, spending time in the mountains, and pool parties with her grandchildren and their friends.
An active and social person, Dee enjoyed her weekly games of Cribbage with friends, hosting Bunko parties, and trips to Legends Casino, especially on “gift day.” During Christmas, she would wrap those casino treasures, and the family would play a lively dice game to see which treasurers they took home. Dee faithfully attended her swimming class at the YMCA and loved going to Burger night once a week with family.
Affectionately, she was known as mom, Grammie, Grandma Dee, and Grandma Mike. She answered to each name as if it were a badge of honor. She was always present, always supportive. Cheering the loudest at every sports game, attending every gathering and birthday party. If there was a reason to celebrate or get the family together, she was there.
Dee was very active and devoted to her community. She was a member of the Naches Women’s Club for 62 years, joining in 1964 and a member of the Naches/Lower Naches Grange for over 60 years. She also belonged to the Hallmark Club and was one of the original founding members of Naches Dollars for Scholars, an organization dedicated to supporting graduating seniors through scholarships. Dee gave countless hours volunteering for annual fundraising events, including the yearly golf tournament and crab feed.
Dee is survived by her children: Troy Huck and wife Lona; Todd Huck and wife Lori, and Darci Monson and husband Bill. She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jena Blinksy (Matt), Jordan Huck, Dalton Huck, Rachel Agnew, Darrien Gillespie (Brandon), Derek Huck (Alli) Taylor Jackson (Ty), Blake Monson (Kirston) and Makenzie Monson. She is blessed with 13 great grandchildren, with two on the way, and one great-great grandchild. Dee is also survived by her brothers Denny Fewel and Terry (Pepper) Fewel; Bill Huck (Jennifer) and Gerry Blackmore as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David John Huck, her parents Frank and Betty (Fewel) Shephard and in-laws Joseph and Agnus (Fisher) Huck.
Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27th 2026 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Keith and Keith Funeral Home in Yakima, WA.
