Dolly, along with her three brothers and parents, left Richmond in search of a better life and moved to Port Orchard, Washington. The family made the journey across the country in an old Chevrolet, pulling a trailer and camping along the way.
After living in Port Orchard for a short period, they moved to Selah, Washington. In 1949 Dolly met a neighbor boy and became attracted to him. In time, she branded him and her name changed to Mrs. Charles Callahan. Dolly and her husband had been married 68 years prior to his passing in 2021. Dolly started her married life working outside the home at Wades Nursing facility in Yakima. However, with the births of multiple daughters and a son, she became a stay at home mother, tending to the needs of the family, which she did so extremely well.
Dolly expressed her love through cooking and nurturing. Her biscuits and gravy, along with her chicken and dumplings, were staples at family gatherings and always in high demand. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—working in her yard, enjoying a warm cup of coffee, and rocking in her favorite chair while listening to music.
She was deeply loved and admired by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry her memory forward.
Until we meet again in heaven.
