A family party celebrating her life will be held this summer. There will be laughter, stories and her favorite foods – bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches and chocolate sundaes.
She and her husband Dick Bryce met in Hawaii and married in Seattle. They lived out their life together in Montana and Washington. Five children joined them as a family which gradually expanded as the kids married and had children. Her children include Becky Kay Tatum and husband Mike of Prairie City Oregon and their children James Tatum of South Pasadena California and Karli Wright of La Grande Oregon; Robert and Jane Bryce of Richland Washington and son David; Bonnie Marples and husband Dennis of Yakima Washington and daughter Janie Busk of Wenatchee Washington; Bill Bryce and wife Julie Slone of Olympia and children Riley and Lillian; Beth Schwenk and husband Kyle of Seaside Oregon and children Laura and Kelly. Dolores took great pride in her three great grandchildren Jack Busk, Natalie Busk and Samuel Tatum. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard and her granddaughter Julie Marples.
After graduating from high school in Owatonna, Minnesota, Dolores worked on the Steele County Photo News, one of the first photo-lith papers in the country. She attended Hamlin University and the University of Minnesota. Summers during college were spent waitressing in the national parks. Then she took off for a long dreamed of year in Hawaii. It was there that she met Dick.
Dolores was known as Dolly in adult life, a name that reflected her adventurous and light hearted spirit. Family life was her joy. Her second joy was writing stories about her life. She wrote over 300 stories that she shared with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In later years there was time for travel, volunteer work at schools, working on Memorial Hospital’s newsletter and for years with Mazie Meade at Wellness House. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and writing and antique groups. She enjoyed her last years at Living Care Retirement Community and Hillcrest at Summitview.
